Tuskegee, AL

The Tuskegee Housing Authority has provided a newly renovated 5-bedroom house and access to a large computer lab for the Youth Safe Haven.  Unlike other sites, where the main partner is the police department, the civilian staff in Tuskegee are partnering with the police, the sheriff and the fire department to provide a number of uniformed officers (including fire department security personnel) for the youths to interact with.

In an effort to provide even greater contact with the police, an officer and his family now reside in the housing area served by the Youth Safe Haven, and the officers wife is a civilian staff member.

Tuskegee has opened its arms and heart to Katrina victims, as has the Youth Safe Haven, with evacuees from New Orleans getting academic assistance from the program.
