In D.Y.C., we together work as team to accomplish many youth goals, such as peer-pressure, drug abuses, gangs, etc.
We were founded in 1981 in response to the need for programs to serve the most at risk youth of Boston – teens who are likely to become involved in the criminal justice and social service systems. The mission at DYC is to engage these teens in relationships and projects that promote the health and safety of the community and the psycho-social development of the youth.
DYC provides crime, drug, gang and pregnancy prevention services to at risk teens and those deeply involved in delinquent and self-destructive behavior. We do this through two major programs: the first being an alternative middle school program for truant and court referred to youth.
The second and largest of the two is the Center for Urban Expression (CUE). It is a “sage haven” drop-in center, providing evening meals, counseling, recreational activities, jobs, media arts, creative fun and challenging opportunities to promote youth development, self worth and a sense of belonging. DYC distinguish itself from other youth programs in Boston through its philosophy and approach to serving youth.
Our priority is to serve teens who have a high failure rate in other youth programs. At the Center for Urban Expression youth can relax in a safe, informal streets. Through having a drop-in center DYC is able to help reduce the likelihood that a youth will participate in high risk activities as well as the risk of becoming a perpetrator or victim in neighborhood violence.
